Phero-NOPE!
Human sez: I havn’t had good luck with cat pheromones. In the past tried Feliway diffuser for multi-cat cat households when I had 3 cats, but did not see any difference in behavior (three boy cats who mostly got a long pretty well, but one of them was prone to high anxiety). But it was time for Mischiefs first car ride – she’s 13 yrs old! – and thought I’d revisit pheromones. Comfort Zone offers a money back guarantee so I decided to give it a try.
I was planning a weeks long vacay and this would be her first time in a car and away from home. As per the instructions, I sprayed in all corners of the carrier for a test run. I saw no change in her behavior, no relaxation or willingness to go into the carrier. I called the Comfort Zone hotline and spoke to a rep who, when telling her of our situation told me that Comort Zone probably wouldn’t solve the problem – it works well for cats who are spraying or aggressive, but would not be a good solution for a cat getting used to a new environment, it wouldn’t offer that type of relaxation/de-escalation of anxiety. I appreciated their honesty and was able to get a full refund as promised.
So while this didn’t work for me, the company was really good about customer service. I’d say give it a try – it might work in your situation and for your cat.
Cat sez: So what was this idea again? That there is something that is going to make me like getting into a plastic enclosure, then having that enclosure put inside a larger, noisier enclosure and I’m supposed to be cool with that?
